Leads Scam #1 - Re-Selling Old Leads as New Leads

It was 11 years ago when I began buying business opportunity seekers lists for the first time.  I remember the first list I ever bought and called.  Those leads were so bad that after making over 100 phone calls, I had made 3 widows cry when I asked to talk to their deceased husbands - a couple of them had been deceased for more than a year!

Let's face it folks... I had been scammed by a leads vendor for the very first time. Not only had that vendor sold me old leads, but it as it turns out, they sold the same leads to a lot of other people besides me.

So what are some of the ways lead vendors will scam you with old leads?

I NEED NEW LEADS.  LET'S EXCHANGE LISTS!

There are vendors that will actually exchange lead lists with other vendors thereby getting access to "new" leads. While the leads certainly aren't new, they're new to the second vendor who then changes the "born on" dates of the leads. I continue to have vendors ask me to exchange old leads with them... and I always refuse. 

Now you know how certain vendors can sell autoresponder leads so "inexpensively".  It's because they didn't pay for them.

TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE PRICING

I was recently scammed thousands of dollars by a Texas leads broker when I purchased one million double optin leads for testing purposes. To test how responsive the leads were, I placed them into an emailer and found them to be absolutely worthless!!  These "fresh" double optin leads yielded less than 30 responses from a mailing of over 900,000 emails!!  In all my years of online marketing, I've never seen such poor quality leads.  Never.

Don't let cheap lead pricing fool you. If the price appears too good to be true, then your instincts are probably right.  Though the lead price can be very attractive, they'll end up costing you a lot more because you'll have to purchase thousands and thousands of more leads just to get ANY sort of response.

NEED REAL-TIME LEADS?  SEND OLD LEADS VIA EMAIL

You probably recall from a recent newsletter that I tested a "publisher" by contracting them to generate real-time surveyed leads for me. That meant that the publisher was to send live traffic to my landing page and whenever a visitor opted into the form, the publisher would be paid a fee for each lead generated. The landing page was setup and the publisher was paid in advance.

That's when things went "south" in a hurry...

Once the campaign started, I began to receive "live surveyed" leads in my inbox. The problem was that none of the leads were generated from my landing page. Instead, they were being emailed from the publisher.

Generating "optin leads" via email is the same scam I that saw when I owned my autoresponder company (PAR).  Every so often some of my more savvy customers would "subscribe" their leads to their autoresponder campaign via an email script.  Leads would arrive exactly 5 seconds apart and were from randomly generated IP addresses.

Import old leads into an emailer and then email them to the customer making them "real-time" leads.... Boy... those guys were a piece of work!

NEED FRESH LEADS? JUST CHANGE THE DATE

I spoke with Deon Danner of Coastal Vacations yesterday about this very topic.  Deon recalls a time when he purchased leads from a particular vendor... only to have the same leads list resold to his wife the very next day but with different "born on" date stamps!  WOW!  I would say that vendor was bold, brazen and greedy! 

In summary, re-selling old leads as new leads is one of the biggest MLM Leads scams there is. Take care to investigate your leads vendor before making a purchase... listen to the company's training calls to see how well others are doing with the leads and more importantly, call the company up on the telephone and ask how the leads are generated.

And as always, do business with people that you know and trust.  That way you can avoid being scammed out of your good, hard-earned cash.
