"You and I Can Make a Difference!"

Dear Entrepreneur,

I just spent several hours in front of the TV this evening watching the disaster relief of Hurricane Katrina. I saw men, women, children and the elderly with absolutely no place to go. They had nothing! They had no belongings. They had no food, no water. They had no place to sleep except the highway overpass that they were stranded on. Everything that they had ever owned in this world was now gone.
Vanished.
I saw desperate people. I saw a dead man covered with a mattress. People walked right past him without even noticing. He was so distraught about his situation that he simply jumped off a bridge to end his life.
I saw babies that were just a few weeks old. They sweltered in the heat of the day. No shade. No water. These weren't babies from some third-world country. These were babies living a few hundred miles away from me... and probably you too! Can you imagine how helpless their Mother felt?... No way to help them...
I saw a stranded elderly woman sitting on the curb of an overpass. More than a day ago, she sat helplessly as she watched her husband die. No one helped him. No one could help her. Since she was stranded, there was no where to take his body, so it remained covered right there at her feet along the curb.
It's hard to imagine that this could happen.
As I watched the suffering tonight, I began to think of how I could make a difference. That's when the saying came to mind..."If it's meant to be, it's up to me." And that's when I thought of you.
